Addis Ababa, meaning “New Flower” is the seat of the continental organization, the African Union (AU), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and other regional and international organizations. With an altitude that ranges from 2200 – 3200 metres (7,218 - 10,498 ft) above sea level, Addis Ababa is the third highest capital in the world. Chaotic and sprawling, with some four million inhabitants, Addis is a vibrant mixture of ancient traditions and modern development, offering visitors a colorful mosaic of African, European, Arabic, and specifically Ethiopian cultures. With its wide variety of co-existing life-styles, Addis is always dynamic, and always captivating.
